We reside in a five year-new building on the western portion of Island Lake. Our building has a unique eye-catching shape with a total of 10,000 square feet. There are six classrooms, a Music and Activity room, a Conference room, and a Front Office on the ground floor. A second floor consists of an Educational/Curriculum Office, a Financial Office and storage.

The entire building offers a large amount of natural light and heated floors. With keeping our children safe and healthy, the floors are a cutting-edge, stained concrete with warm educational rugs and comfort child-size areas to play.

Each classroom is set up with the teachers in the classroom and an Educational Director. All of the classrooms offer age-appropriate learning opportunities. Our center follows the National Association of Education for Young Children (NAEYC) guidelines and the State of Illinois Department of Children Families Services standards (DCFS).

We currently have over a 12,000 square foot outdoor play area. This area is completely fenced in with a life-guard style fence. Our goal for 2004 and 2005 was to create a $120,000 playground that included seperate large-motor structures for Infant through Toddlers, Two through Five Year-Olds, and Six through Twelve Year-Olds.  We accomplished our goals!  The playground also includes swings in all age groups, a bike path, large climbing structures as well as teeter-totters.  

 

The Young Scholars Child Care Center of Gurnee occupies approximately 12,000 square feet of the shopping plaza with indoor and outdoor large motor play areas.  Our outdoor play area is equiped with a large climber and ample space for bike riding and enjoying the outdoors while our indoor gym is used in inclimiate weather and for general large motor activities. 

There are six spacious classrooms, the Mozart Classroom for infants ages 6 weeks to 15 months, the Picasso Classroom for toddlers ages 15 months to 2 years, the Shakespeare Classroom for ages 2 to 3 years, the Franklin Classroom for ages 3 to 4 years, the Einstein Classroom for ages 4 to 5 years, and the Galileo Classroom for ages 5 years to 12 years.  Aside from the gym the other areas of our building include an educational supply room for teachers, a kitchen, front office and entry way, and an additional office for administration.
