The Picasso Classroom

Hello and welcome to the Picasso classroom!  Our program will allow your child to explore their world through many new learning experiences and will focus on developing their self-esteem and independence in a structured social setting. The children in our class will be given the opportunity to develop at their own pace and are offered encouragement and support in trying new things. Our program will provide an enthusiastic, nurturing environment in which your child can grow, learn, and have lots of fun.

As infants grow into toddlers, they are busy learning new things about themselves and the world around them. In addition to introducing your toddler to plenty of songs, books and art projects, our teachers let the children lead the way, while responding to their interests in stories, songs, and play to help them grow and learn with confidence.  Young Scholars Picasso classroom encompasses all developmental areas, providing your child with daily activities that specifically focus on developing emotionally, intellectually, physically, and socially.

Hi, my name is Leah Davis.  I am currently attending the College of Lake County to finish my associates degree in Early Childhood Education.  I have been working with children for over 12 years!  I have worked with age groups of infants to 21 years of age in the child care setting.  I have experience working with severe to mild disabilities.  I also worked in the Special Education District of Lake County for 4 years.  My hobbies include scrap booking and cooking.  I look forward to getting to know you and your child!

Learning to use large motor skills and a huge focus.  Our students in this classroom learn to drink from a cup, use a spork to eat with as well as using their "words" and not gestures to communicate.  It is quite common for our toddlers in this room to be toilet trained by the time they reach the two-year old room.  Although we never force a toddler to use the toilet we certainly take the time to encourage them if they show interest.

Hello!  I'm Megan Petersen.  I have been working at this child care center since 2007 and enjoy it very much!  I work in all the classrooms and have gotten to know all the children very well.  When I am not working I go to school at the College of Lake County in Grayslake.  I am working on my teaching degree!  I would love to teach 1st or 2nd grade.  In my free time I enjoy listening to music, watching movies, playing games, and making my own greeting cards.  I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends.
